Obesity is a condition where excess fat is accumulated in the body to the extent that it may negatively affect the health of an individual. A person with BMI above 30Kg/m2 is considered as obese. Symptoms include frequent urination, excessive thirst and increased hunger. Obesity increases risk of having diseases like Diabetes, Hypertension, cardiovascular diseases, osteoarthritis, depression, Hypothyroidism, Infertility etc. Primary causes of Obesity consists of Excessive food intake, Lack of Physical activity and Genetics.
According to Ayurveda, Sthaulya occurs due to increase in Kapha Dosha, Meda dhatu and Agnimaandya.
Treatment:
- Ayurvedic internal medications are advised after understanding the case in detail.
Panchakarma Treatment:
- Vamana, Virechan, Basti are some key Panchakarma treatments which may be performed as per necessicity under strict medical supervision.

- Avoiding the causative factors of Obesity i.e. Lethargy, sedentary lifestyle and diet that increases Kapha Dosha and Meda Dhatu like Curd, excess liquid diet, sweets, Bakery Products, Fermented foods, Potatoes etc. is necessary. Having regular exercise and balanced diet is most important in curing Obesity. Avoid addictive substances. Remain active.
